The Sun

The Sun is the ruling planet of Leo, and the keywords which assess its astrological significance are power, vitality and self-expression.
It is exalted in Aries.
The Sun is the most important inhabitant of the solar system to both astronomers and astrologers, for it is the centre of all life and strength. The sign the Sun was in at the time you were born will influence your character to a great extent.
This is also the one astrological fact that everyone knows, because, of course, it depends on one’s birth date. If the Sun was, for example, in Aries at birth, you would nowadays call yourself an Aries.
Popular newspaper astrology began in the 1930s; before that the most important sign in the personal horoscope was the rising sign, which had to be calculated mathematically.
The Sun works on your image— the face you present to the world. When you read a description of the Sun sign, it is essential to remember that the characteristics listed will be radically modified by the effects of your rising sign. Basically, you are a combination of both your Sun sign and your rising sign, plus the influences of all the other planets in their respective signs of the Zodiac.
If Cancer is your Sun sign, for example, and you read a list of twenty characteristics attributed to Cancer, you would probably conclude that you actually possessed about eight of them as elements of your character, and perhaps an additional two or three might be about right. If, however, you were born at sunrise, your rising sign and Sun sign would be the same, and, as a result, it would have additional force and more of the characteristics would fit.
If you were born under the influence of the Sun, which rules Leo, you are likely to be an ambitious, tireless worker, with a strong will to succeed.
